The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration – Regional Welfare Office XI (OWWA XI) brought together 121 scholars for the 2025 Scholars Youth Camp at the Apo View Hotel, Davao City. With the theme “Nurturing Filipino Core Values and Financial Discipline Among OFW Children Left Behind,” the event was a day of learning, self‑reflection, and camaraderie — equipping the next generation of leaders with both moral grounding and practical skills in financial management.
The camp aimed to:
- Provide a venue for OFW children to connect, share experiences, and build supportive friendships.
- Equip participants with essential knowledge in financial literacy, saving, and responsible spending.
- Develop confidence, leadership, and self‑reliance among scholars.
Empowering Scholars Through Values and Financial Management

In her welcome message, OWWA XI OIC‑Regional Director Gina Mae Quimora emphasized the importance of financial awareness, reminding scholars that responsible money management is a life skill they will carry into adulthood. “As children of OFWs and as scholars, it is important that we learn how to handle money wisely,” she said.
The camp featured Coach Sisoy Kintanar, CEO and Founder of New Breakthrough Consultancy, and Edwin Medez Jr., certified professional life coach, as resource speakers. Known for his dynamic approach, Coach Sisoy introduced his FIT Method — Fun, Interactive, and Transformational — which kept sessions engaging and impactful.
Through games, storytelling, and thought‑provoking discussions, scholars explored leadership, positive mindset, and the role of core values in shaping their future. Coach Sisoy also highlighted the importance of managing time, energy, actions, and mindset, stressing that discipline and perspective are the foundations of growth.
From Mindset to Money Management
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to financial management. Scholars learned to distinguish between wants and needs, with emphasis on investing in what truly matters — such as health, education, and well‑being. Coach Sisoy encouraged participants to cultivate gratitude, practice productivity, and embrace financial responsibility.
His message was clear: “Be a proud Filipino and an OWWA scholar.” By linking values with practical money skills, the camp reinforced that financial discipline is not just about numbers — it’s about making choices that align with one’s purpose and long‑term vision.
Participants shared their reflections, with Lorrhaine Baintin, an EDSP scholar taking up BS Accountancy, expressing gratitude: “We can carry forward the lessons we learned today.” Keian Mar, a BS Computer Science student, added: “We learned to be more financially literate. The lessons are very important to us as students and when we go into the real world.”
